Soil and groundwater remediation in Berks County, Pennsylvania
Onesky Engineering, Inc. provided soil and groundwater remediation for a retail service station that experienced kerosene and unleaded gasoline releases.
Our investigation revealed a large dissolved phase and separate-phase plume on and off site, including approximately ten feet of separate-phase product in on-site wells. We also conducted aquifer testing and pilot testing, then prepared a remedial action plan. We completed the design, obtained the permits and began construction in parallel. In 19 months, our system removed 16,000 pounds of hydrocarbons from the subsurface, eliminated separate-phase petroleum product from the site groundwater, reduced dissolved phase levels by several orders or magnitude and reduced benzene levels to a maximum of 35 parts per billion.
After we finished the remedial action, we negotiated a site-specific clean-up standard with the PADEP. In addition, we developed a buyer-seller agreement that further helped our client and facilitated the sale of the property. The transaction is complete, and the site is undergoing extensive redevelopment.
