Soil and groundwater remediation in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

Onesky Engineering, Inc. is providing soil and groundwater remediation and innovative real estate/risk transfer solutions for a Pennsylvania Act 2 Land Recycling Program site.

When gasoline from a nearby service station was detected in a private well, the previous consultant installed a traditional pump and treat system to remediate the site. The petroleum retailer and its insurer retained Onesky Engineering, Inc. to reevaluate the site. We conducted comprehensive site characterization activities and remedial feasibility testing. We also evaluated a variety of alternative technologies.

We determined that vacuum-enhanced groundwater extraction was the most effective approach for the site. We used pneumatic fracturing of the bedrock in the source area to enhance removal of the contaminants. We also coordinated bottled water supply and point-of-entry treatment systems for affected residents. Using a combination of PADEP statewide health and site-specific standards, we entered the site into the Land Recycling Program. We helped coordinate community relations activities, and we have developed a cost conscious site-closure strategy to eliminate any potential exposure pathways to current and future sensitive receptors.
